Petro Rabigh starts up expanded ethane cracker

Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co. (Petro Rabigh), a joint venture between Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical, on Thursday announced that operations commenced on 19 April at the company’s expanded ethane cracker at Rabigh, Saudi Arabia. This follows the allocation of extra 0 million standard cubic feet/day of ethane to the joint venture, lifting the total ethane processing capacity from 95 million to 125 million standard cubic feet/day. The ethylene capacity has increased from 1. million m.t./year to 1.6 million m.t./year.

Petro Rabigh says that the expanded cracker will lead to an increase in the company’s revenues by approximately 750 million Saudi riyals ($200 million) in 2016.
